  • ½ cup unsalted butter Adds richness and flavor; can use salted butter but adjust salt in the recipe.
  • ¼ teaspoon salt Enhances flavor and balances sweetness; no substitutions recommended.
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour The base for churro structure; can substitute with gluten-free flour if needed.
  • 3 large eggs Creates the dough's structure and moisture; helps achieve a soft interior.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Adds aroma and flavor depth; substitute with almond extract for a different flavor profile.
For Coating

  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon Infuses the signature churro flavor; substitute with other spices like nutmeg for variation.
For Air Frying

Equipment

  • Air Fryer
  • Medium saucepan
  • Piping bag with star tip
  • medium bowl

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions for Air Fryer Churro Bites
  1. In a medium saucepan, combine 1 cup of water, ½ cup of unsalted butter, and ¼ teaspoon of salt. Heat over medium-high until it reaches a rolling boil, stirring occasionally.
  2. Remove the saucepan from heat and quickly stir in 1 cup of all-purpose flour. Stir vigorously until a smooth dough forms and pulls away from the sides of the pan. Allow the dough to cool for about 5 to 10 minutes.
  3. Once the dough has cooled slightly, add 3 large eggs one at a time, mixing thoroughly after each addition. This will create a smooth, cohesive dough.
  4. Stir in 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract to the dough, enhancing the flavor profile. Mix until the vanilla is fully incorporated.
  5. Fit a piping bag with a large star tip and carefully fill it with your churro dough. Make sure not to overfill the bag.
  6. Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for about 3 to 5 minutes.
  7. Lightly spray the air fryer basket with vegetable oil spray to prevent sticking.
  8. Pipe small sections of dough, about 1 to 2 inches in length, into the air fryer basket. Make sure to leave space between each churro.
  9. Air fry the churro bites for 8 to 12 minutes, or until they are golden brown and crisp.
  10. After the first batch is cooked, carefully remove the churros and repeat the piping and air frying steps until all the dough has been used.
  11. In a medium bowl, mix ½ cup of granulated sugar with 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon.
  12. Once the churro bites are warm, toss them in the cinnamon-sugar mixture until well coated.

Notes

Ensure the dough is warm but not hot when adding eggs; this avoids cooking the eggs prematurely, providing a smoother texture. Watch your timing closely to prevent burning.
